Some might call me a hobo-blogger
I've broken a cardinal rule of blogging. I have nearly become a hobo-blogger. I was instructed by my die-hard blogger friend Andrew that you become a "hobo-blogger" when you don't post blogs for extended lengths of time. Right now I have some time to attend to my lack of blogging. The holiday season has afforded me some extra time. Speaking of the holiday season, what do people who arn't Christian think about this whole "Christmas" thing? You're in department stores, shopping for gifts and you hear Christmas carols. Joy to the World, the Lord is Come! Away in the Manger with the baby Jesus laying down his sweet head! What do people think that means? Do they put it on the same level as "Santa" - being a fictious character, a fictious event? I drove past a church building with their markee out front reading "Are you celebrating the birth of Christ or just celebrating?"

  The Cutest Christmas Play Ever!
This may be a slight exageration, but the Children's Christmas Play at Ocean Hills was the CUTEST! The kids did such a great job! One of my favorite parts was when Amara & Brolin did their duet of O Come All Ye Faithful. Amara played piano and Brolin sang. It was so precious! Another highlight was when a stack of empty Christmas boxes fell down on top of some kids - or when the manger literally collapsed, baby and all. You put kids up in front of a church dressed in animal costumes, and you've got a hit, regardless of all the mess ups. The best part of it all is that it's done - and I don't have to fret over it any longer. We did the play at a retirement center yesterday. Afterwards I talked with one of the resisdents. He has tears streaming down his face and his eyes were watery. He said that he was touched by the children's singing. During all the preparation for the play, I was very overwhelmed. There was so much to think about and coordinate, and I tend to worry (even when I know God is in control!). After seeing the gratitude in the old man's eyes, I remembered why we do what we do. There is a mission in the madness & heckticness of holidays, the mission of Christ. Sharing Christ, being Christ and resting in Christ. What a better way to share the joy of Christ birth than with children!

  The Fame Behind the Name
Some of you may be wondering why I've decided to name this site Kelsey-Land. Well, wonder no furthur because I will now unravel the mystery behind the name. See, I work two jobs. The job I love is working at Ocean Hills Church where I hang out with kiddies and try to love them like God does. As church work goes, sometimes another job is necessary to maintain your standard of living, as it is in my case. I took a second job as a receptionist at a Physical Therapy office. It's not terrible, but it's not terribly great either. To amuse myself, and to make the time go by a little quiker, I often sing little songs to myself, chat with my co-workers and other things of the sort. One of my co-workers, Dave, often gives me puzzling stares. His look seems to say "What's wrong with you? Why are you so happy?" One time, after I said something silly as usual, he said "Can I live in your world?" It got me thinking about "my world." It seems that I may actually live in a happier kind of world than most people - a different kind of land so to speak. Kelsey-Land is a land of optimistic thoughts, peace, kindness and the like. Idealy its a Gal 5:22 land, rich in fruit of the spirit. Granted, I'm not always happy, upbeat and positive, actually on some days I can be a positive brat. Anyhow, that's the explaination for the name.

  The Chronicles of Narnia
So, I'm finally reading the Chronicles of Narnia. You would think that in my 22 years of life I would have read them already, but, I havn't. Anyways, I was chatting with a friend about the books and we were talking about Aslan - the lion. As I understand, Aslan is the character of God. I was saying how I loved the way that Aslan is described, his compassion, his power and his mystery. My friend Darsh brought up a good point though. In "The Horse and His Boy" Aslan puts his claws into the back of Aravis. He explains his reasoning later in that she had caused someone else pain and he wanted her to know how it felt. Darsh had a hard time with this theology - the theology that God causes pain. If you've read the book and remember the part I'm talking about, please share your thoughts.

OK, So I've Joined the World of Blogging
I've resisted SO long without joining blog land, but I could't resist any longer. At least once a week I come home thinking, "Wouldn't it be fun to have a blog to write down my random thoughts?" So here I am. I couldn't stay away any longer. Welcome into my thoughts, life, and heart. Welcome to Kelsey Land.

Who am I? I'm a follower of Christ, a lover of ultimate frisbee, a sister of three silly brothers, a youth worker for pre-teens, and a big fan of Diet Coke. I live by the beach, work at a church, eat a lot of canned soup and spend a lot of my free time buried in books. I don't like celery, zits or extreme sarcasm. I love my family, my friends, my co-workers and above all, GOD.
